The Clifton Lido

Restoration of a Grade II Listed Building which dates from 1849

The building had been closed for 25 years and needed an almost complete rebuild to create a contemporary solar-heated pool with luxurious spa facilities, plus a 75-seat restaurant and poolside bar. As a listed building, expert craftsmanship was needed to ensure a sympathetic restoration, while constructing the ultra-modern spa and dining facilitates that would ensure the Lido’s profitability.

Working in conjunction with English Heritage, IKON rebuilt the Lido’s existing structure, leaving just the original facade in place.
The team levelled the swimming pool which had fallen half a metre in one corner; built stylish treatment rooms; and created a state-of-the-art restaurant space. We also created a suspended canti-levered staircase which is positioned centrally in the spa area.

The building is located in a busy residential street, meaning minimal disruption and continued access were essential throughout the build.

Entry to the building was via a single doorway, which posed numerous challenges during construction, as everything – including all concrete and waste – had to be taken in and out of there.
