Initially built as a theatre in 1892, 13-21 Baldwin Street, in the centre of Bristol, became known as the “People’s Palace”. It was turned into the Gaumont Cinema in 1912 and rebuilt in 1928. Many Bristol residents will remember it as Ritzy’s nightclub in the 1980’s and 90’s; and it last traded as the Sports Cafe before closing in 2007.
Working with client McLaren Property Ltd, Iesis Group and architects Stride Treglown, IKON is delighted to be appointed as the principal contractor to revitalise this fascinating building. The new site will incorporate 93 studio apartments over 5 floors, with a retail unit on the ground floor.
Whilst the facade will be protected and retained throughout the build, demolition on the remaining structure will commence early in the New Year.
